We stayed for 5 nights in the tipi which is for hire at the hostel and we loved it! It's the perfect compromise when travelling on budget but wishing for some comfort, too. The tipi is very comfortable and spacious, it has a double bed (!), two chairs and a little table. Pillows and warm blanket are provided and they kept us warm even on a colder night. It's very easy to forget you are sleeping in a tent so don't be surprised if it gets a little noisy at windy and rainy nights.
The hostel is great. We loved the kitchen - it's huge and very well equipped. Everything was comfy and clean and it's easy to make yourself at home there. The staff (Kelly and Heloise) are very friendly and helpful, too.
We found the location perfect as a base for trips to the Cliffs of Moher (8 km from the hostel, overall a 16km hike in a very manageable terrain), the Burren or the Aran Islands. We couldn't wish for a better place to stay while exploring the western coast.
Very well run and great staff, will definitely return there.
It is without hesitation the best hostel in our Irish journey! While the campground is a bit small but it is sheltered from the wind by stone wall, which is not insignificant in this windy area. Opportunity to visit the Cliffs of Moher the coastal path located steps. Common rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen ...) are a picturesque charm, peat fire and old stone floor. The inn offers a courtesy tea and coffee. The staff (speaking French to some) was very friendly and welcoming, even helping us to organize the rest of our trip with advice that we were very practical. Possibility of free use of the washing machine. Very good price / quality I highly recommend!
A conseiller!

We were travelling around Co. Clare, The Burren and Co. Galway on motorbikes. We were camping everywhere, but after visiting the Cliffs of Moher decided we were ready to camp for the night. We drove the short distance to Doolin and were delighted by Aille River Hostel.
We were able to camp in the grounds but avail of the amenities (such as roomy warm showers, toilets, kitchen etc). And even though it was May, the wood-burning stove was most welcome to sit in front of before settling down for the night.
Staff were superb, friendly and very helpful - would highly recommend.
My husband and I spent a perfect night camping in the grounds of Aille River Hostel in Doolin and what a privilege that was!. The camp site was perfect...level, soft earth and beautifully sheltered by a stone wall. The hostel itself is one of the best I've visited...immaculately clean, piping hot showers, very friendly and welcoming staff and owner, a wonderful wood burning stove and large kitchen....unfortunately we could only stay one night but we will be back both to enjoy the physical space and to meet more interesting characters. the icing on the cake was the fact that Glenedd our dog was welcomed and other guests even played ball and threw the stick for him so all in all thank you Robert and staff for a hugely enjoyable experience in the magical Aille River Hostel.
