We were travelling around Co. Clare, The Burren and Co. Galway on motorbikes. We were camping everywhere, but after visiting the Cliffs of Moher decided we were ready to camp for the night. We drove the short distance to Doolin and were delighted by Aille River Hostel.
We were able to camp in the grounds but avail of the amenities (such as roomy warm showers, toilets, kitchen etc). And even though it was May, the wood-burning stove was most welcome to sit in front of before settling down for the night.
Staff were superb, friendly and very helpful - would highly recommend.
My husband and I spent a perfect night camping in the grounds of Aille River Hostel in Doolin and what a privilege that was!. The camp site was perfect...level, soft earth and beautifully sheltered by a stone wall. The hostel itself is one of the best I've visited...immaculately clean, piping hot showers, very friendly and welcoming staff and owner, a wonderful wood burning stove and large kitchen....unfortunately we could only stay one night but we will be back both to enjoy the physical space and to meet more interesting characters. the icing on the cake was the fact that Glenedd our dog was welcomed and other guests even played ball and threw the stick for him so all in all thank you Robert and staff for a hugely enjoyable experience in the magical Aille River Hostel.

This was a sweet little hostel right next to the river in the small village of Doolin.
There was a welcoming atmosphere in the common room and the attic room that was my bedroom had lots of space and plenty of light coming in. The kitchen was large and with a good set-up and lots of people were cooking their own food, there were a few people camping on the lawn outside who came in to use the facilities too. I liked the communal feeling, there was always somebody around to have a cup of tea with and chat too.
I wasn't sure whether to stay in Galway or Doolin and I was very glad in the end that I chose Doolin & the Aillie River Hostel (and it was walking distance to the Cliffs of Moher).

Very nice hostel, excellent location, clean and friendly.
We stayed over Easter and when we woke up on Easter Sunday the hostel had hidden easter eggs all through the lobby and dining room! Very nice.
I stayed only a little time, but I spent the month traveling in Ireland and I can say that is the best hostel of them all. It was amazing and I loved it here. The bed was comfy and everything was very clean. I got a lovely little breakfast and it was more than enough. The girl working there was so friendly and very efficient. She remembers everybody and sees to their needs! Lovely. Doolin will forever be one of my fondest memories of Ireland. I saw a shooting star outside on the little bridge made from stones. So expect a little magic. And the pubs near are amazing both when it comes to food and people. So book your stay now :D
The Aille River Hostel is a great place to spend your holidays in Ireland.
The people are really nice and helpful and funny all the time.I really enjoyed my time at this Hostel. I'll come back :) thanks ...
Wonderfull stay at a very friendly location. The staff is nice, I felt king of the kitchen, bed was good, shower was the best. Perfect. Washing machine was big and quick, everything we needed: we found it. Relaxing, nice environment, lovely people. I definitly want to come again. We stayed with two teenagers in a 4 bedroom, they really loved it.
The best hostel in Doolin. Well-located. Only a few steps from Fitzpatrick's Bar with live music. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Clean and cosy rooms and bathrooms. Well-equipped kitchen. Breakfast available on request for €1.50. Free WiFi. Just great! Nothing more, nothing less.
The hostel's location is perfect (just a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher). The staff is extremely friendly and the place is very clean and comfortable.
There are several shops and bars within walking distance which is nice as well as a small beach and pier within walking distance.
Was a perfect hostel, especially for the price. A parking lot to park our car, free laundry and in the ideal spot to hike to cliffs of moher (9 miles/3 hours round trip). Our room had 5 bunk beds. Showers and bathrooms were all individual and divided which was very nice.
This is the most cutest cottage ever. Its close to the Cliffs of Moehr and the owner is so friendly and helpful.
Neither of us had ever stayed at a hostel before, but the reviews of Aille River convinced us that this would be a good place to start.
The big, well-stocked, clean kitchen was often in use as was the commons area in which Robert lit a fire every evening. A free washer (with soap powder) and pay dryer were available to use in the afternoon/evening.
Robert was very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, recommending a walk down the road from the hostel toward the shore (and past the "Danger! Beware of the Bull" sign) where we saw an unbelievably beautiful sunset. He also gave us a ride to the pier and let us leave our car at the hostel while we went to Inis Mor.
The location was very central: across from one pub and easily walkable to several other pubs in either direction.
