This place is perfect - I felt so at home and Doolin is fabulous. The wifi works great, the rooms are spacious with windows and the beds are solid, comfortable, and roomy. There's laundry and a huge self serve kitchen with a cheap, good breakfast option and plenty of pubs for dinner nearby. The staff are super helpful in directing you to the nearby attractions, and the Cliffs of Moher are a gorgeous hike away. The lawn near the river is perfect for sitting and reading - can't wait to be back!
This cute cottage of a hostel was perfect for us bicycling around the area and others following a similar plan! We were able to use their FREE washing machine and air dry our clothes. The city of Doolin is very small, but just near this hostel there is a small collections of shops and restaurants that are only a few feet away so the location is really ideal. The staff were really helpful with all our questions about biking related trips and distances and the complications of storing our bikes.
Absolutely loved the Ailee River Hostel, beautiful place, really clean and great atmosphere.
They even have a Nespresso machine. Would 100% recommend it.
Clean, welcoming and keen to help ,second d time at the hostel and will happily return!
We had an amazing time at Aille River Hostel. It is by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in! Great location to the Cliffs of Moher, and Aran Islands Ferry.
If you are visiting Doolin, you must stay here. The room was clean and bathrooms were spotless. Beds were comfortable and the atmosphere at the hostel is second to none. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and cost only 1.5 euro.
COME TO THIS HOSTEL!!
Very quaint and hospitable. Our host was extremely friendly and helpful. Free tea and coffee all day and a fire at night... can't beat that!
The Aille River Hostel is a cozy little hostel. We had a very nice double room with river view and a small bathroom. It was very clean, no matter if you were in the shared restrooms, the kitchen or the private restrooms.
The bed was comfortable and it was quiet, allthough the hostel was rather busy. The staff was helpful and very friendly.
Stayed June 2015, travelled as a couple.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June. The hostel is really cool, with plenty of facilities for guests. The staff were very friendly and there was no issue with our late evening arrival and staying around for a while before our departure. Good mix of families and backpacking tourists staying here, adding to a nice relaxed vibe.
We had a lovely time and met such interesting people during our stay. The laundry, breakfast and location were perfect for our family.
We were travelling around Co. Clare, The Burren and Co. Galway on motorbikes. We were camping everywhere, but after visiting the Cliffs of Moher decided we were ready to camp for the night. We drove the short distance to Doolin and were delighted by Aille River Hostel.
We were able to camp in the grounds but avail of the amenities (such as roomy warm showers, toilets, kitchen etc). And even though it was May, the wood-burning stove was most welcome to sit in front of before settling down for the night.
Staff were superb, friendly and very helpful - would highly recommend.
My husband and I spent a perfect night camping in the grounds of Aille River Hostel in Doolin and what a privilege that was!. The camp site was perfect...level, soft earth and beautifully sheltered by a stone wall. The hostel itself is one of the best I've visited...immaculately clean, piping hot showers, very friendly and welcoming staff and owner, a wonderful wood burning stove and large kitchen....unfortunately we could only stay one night but we will be back both to enjoy the physical space and to meet more interesting characters. the icing on the cake was the fact that Glenedd our dog was welcomed and other guests even played ball and threw the stick for him so all in all thank you Robert and staff for a hugely enjoyable experience in the magical Aille River Hostel.
Stayed August 2014, travelled as a couple
Stayed here for the Doolin Folk Festival 2015. Had a ball at the festival and was situated in close proximity to pubs, restaurants etc.
Clean, nice staff, comfortable beds, great value, would definitely stay again.
Wonderful place, great staff very friendly, nice kitchen with everything you could need, espresso machine. Nice fire place. Best place!
A clean and very cosy hostel. Friendly, welcoming stuff. Compared to other hostels rather expensive, but i guess for a touristy area it is ok. Doolin is a cute, small village, but with some nice pubs very alive. I definitly enjoyed my stay, i even stayed an extra night! It is definitly the place to stay when in Doolin!
From start to finish Aille River surpassed expectations. We made our reservations online and recieved an email requesting confirmation of our reservations a few days prior to arrival with directions that included GPS coordinates. Since our plans were set, I sent the confirmation immediately. We were greeted upon arrival and felt at home immediately. There was just a coulple hours of daylight left but using the proffered advice we were able to see a wonderful sunset with the ocean and the cliffs. I recommend taking the breakfast option for a mere €1.50. (a choice of fruit and nut muesli OR an egg, irish soda bread + butter, jam OR soft cheese, tea or coffee. You will have to fix the eggs yourself but the kitchen is very spacious and friendly for multiple users. Evening entertainment within a very short walking distance. Highly recommended and we would definitely return.
Arrived late on a Sunday evening, past check in time and found the owner very accommodating and friendly. Lovely little hostel with a lovely stove in the common area. If cheap and cheerful are what you are looking for then I would strongly recommend the Allie River Hostel.
a lovely hostel in a beautiful location with a cheerful, friendly and accommodating owner. as group of 6 adults travelling, we arrived late which was no problem for the owner, the room was big and the beds were comfortable
My son and I are traveling across, up, and down Ireland. Our first two nights were at the Aille River Hostel and it was beyond my hopes. It was so charming, I had the most picturesque view from my room. We had one full size bed and one twin with a wall separating so a bit of privacy. It was clean, the staff were friendly and so were the guests. Doolin is such a great town. We're now planning on ending our trip there while taking in a music festival in town. I highly recommend this place.
The cutest hostel to match an exceedingly cute town!
We really enjoyed our stay here and had a nice time talking to the owner who was very sweet. Would and will stay here again!
The most pleasant hostel in the world. Cosy, warm, lovely staff.
Been there twice and hoping to stay again for the doolin festival. If you are staying in Doolin, STAY HERE!
Great location in the small town of Doolin. The hostel had small lockers which was greatly appreciated.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly when we arrived. Great atmosphere!
Favorite hostel I've stayed in so far. It has a cozy, cottage like feel with a great environment and perfect location.
You can walk to the cliffs from here. The receptionist is such a kind lady.
Definitely the loveliest place we've been! Perfect hostel to calm down after an exciting day around the Cliffs of Moher and to meet other travellers!
Simply loved it, nothing more to say...
LOVED staying here! Doolin is a beautiful town and the walk to the cliffs was amazing. Have already recommended this hostel to friends traveling to Ireland and will continue to do so.
The owners are great and super hospitable. 10 out of 10 from me!
The hostel was clean, warm, friendly, safe, and all the good things in between! It was really close to the Cliffs of Moher and the staff was able to answer all of my questions from a good sunset hike to the food around. They had a clean towel I was able to borrow and their facilities were extremely clean. They also had a really nice pub across the street. I truly enjoyed the nice fire with background Irish music while I took advantage of their wifi. It was a truly a warm and lovely hostel.
It was truly the best hostel we have stayed at!
Rosine and Robert went out of their way to ensure we had the best time on our holiday; and we did! The week we spent there was definitely not enough so we will be coming back! If you're looking for the perfect getaway and holiday experience then head over to Aille River- you won't be disappointed :) thanks again for everything guys, love Luce and Chlo!
I love this hostel! The staff were wonderful and welcomed me as if I had been there 100 times. The kitchen was well equipped and the free tea and coffee were a bonus. The rooms and facilities were really clean and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was very cheap and packed with protein which really set me up for the day's hiking (it was much better than some free 'light' breakfasts I have had in other hostels). The hostel was warm and comfortable and has a very special atmosphere
For me, the staff running a hostel make all the difference. Robert is so warm, welcoming, gracious, and generous that it was really a pleasure. On top of that, the room was comfortable and nice and the kitchen was large and easy to use, inexpensive breakfast possible there. The location is right between the two parts of Doolin. I'd recommend going to one of the there main pubs for food and music rather than the place closest to the hostel. We had a wonderful stay at Aille River and would definitely return.
If you have a chance to stay in Doolin, DO NOT pass this hostel up. A must select!!
We (four of us) were visiting Ireland for 6 days and stayed at 3 hostels and two hotels. This was the very best of all of them. A true jewel as a hostel. We reserved a four person room with a private en suite (bathroom). Every aspect of the stay was exquisite, room, kitchen, showers, visiting room, and host. Words are hard to describe the comfort that was felt immediately upon arriving. We were giving in-depth advice on what to visit the night we arrived and the next. The picture doesn't lie on how the hostel looks. Next to a brook, and walking distance (45 seconds) to a bar/restaurant across the bridge. It had live traditional Irish music the night we visited.
Oh yea, the Cliffs of Mohr are there to also to visit.
“The location!!
Beautiful restaurants within 2minutes walk! Garage and shop near by and the cliffs of mohar was a 10 minute drive with the most spectacular views along the way! Hostel itself was so homely and welcoming and free tea and coffee! Great value for money!! The views from the hostel were amazing! picnic tables outside the hostel by the river :) we cannot wait to go back!”
Super !
Great spot, we stumbled into it by accident, it's the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Great value for money.
Danke dafür! !
This is probably the best hostel I've ever been at, and I've done some hostel-hopping around Europe.
It feels just like a home. The hosts are very friendly and very welcoming, but they give you your space. Cozy interior and a beautiful setting. I highly recommend it!
Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor.
I would move here in a split second. We were late arriving to the hostel and the lovely front desk guy stayed late for us. The hostel was not what I expected at all. It was CLEAN, large kitchen, hot showers, laundry facilities on site. The best food ever is just across the little creek. Oh and our room was like a little cottage room. There was two beds separated by a wall and a window that overlooked the creek. I thought it was pretty romantic. I will definitely come back and stay here.
We spent two very pleasant nights here. We stayed in the double ensuite room. The hostel is wonderfully located and Robert is warm and welcoming. The cooking facilities are great and in the evening it's great to eat a meal with the fire burning and the music playing. I'd recommend the breakfast for 1,5 euros too,

Like visiting old friends! You walk in to a warm cozy fireplace areas, where there were likely people sitting drinking their tea wanting to chat and hear about your day! The staff was flexible and casual, very accommodating! Tea and coffee always readily available free of charge.
The beds are a little warn, and it can get noisy at night but that is expected in a hostel and I am sure if we called it would have been handled.
The location could not have been better, in the center of Doolin and walking distance to everything, I truly cannot wait to go back!
This was a sweet little hostel right next to the river in the small village of Doolin.
There was a welcoming atmosphere in the common room and the attic room that was my bedroom had lots of space and plenty of light coming in. The kitchen was large and with a good set-up and lots of people were cooking their own food, there were a few people camping on the lawn outside who came in to use the facilities too. I liked the communal feeling, there was always somebody around to have a cup of tea with and chat too.
I wasn't sure whether to stay in Galway or Doolin and I was very glad in the end that I chose Doolin & the Aillie River Hostel (and it was walking distance to the Cliffs of Moher).
Stayed September 2014, travelled solo
Very nice hostel, excellent location, clean and friendly.
We stayed over Easter and when we woke up on Easter Sunday the hostel had hidden easter eggs all through the lobby and dining room! Very nice.
I stayed only a little time, but I spent the month traveling in Ireland and I can say that is the best hostel of them all. It was amazing and I loved it here. The bed was comfy and everything was very clean. I got a lovely little breakfast and it was more than enough. The girl working there was so friendly and very efficient. She remembers everybody and sees to their needs! Lovely. Doolin will forever be one of my fondest memories of Ireland. I saw a shooting star outside on the little bridge made from stones. So expect a little magic. And the pubs near are amazing both when it comes to food and people. So book your stay now :D
The Aille River Hostel is a great place to spend your holidays in Ireland.
The people are really nice and helpful and funny all the time.I really enjoyed my time at this Hostel. I'll come back :) thanks ...
Wonderfull stay at a very friendly location. The staff is nice, I felt king of the kitchen, bed was good, shower was the best. Perfect. Washing machine was big and quick, everything we needed: we found it. Relaxing, nice environment, lovely people. I definitly want to come again. We stayed with two teenagers in a 4 bedroom, they really loved it.
The best hostel in Doolin. Well-located. Only a few steps from Fitzpatrick's Bar with live music. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Clean and cosy rooms and bathrooms. Well-equipped kitchen. Breakfast available on request for €1.50. Free WiFi. Just great! Nothing more, nothing less.
The hostel's location is perfect (just a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher). The staff is extremely friendly and the place is very clean and comfortable.
There are several shops and bars within walking distance which is nice as well as a small beach and pier within walking distance.
Was a perfect hostel, especially for the price. A parking lot to park our car, free laundry and in the ideal spot to hike to cliffs of moher (9 miles/3 hours round trip). Our room had 5 bunk beds. Showers and bathrooms were all individual and divided which was very nice.
This is the most cutest cottage ever. Its close to the Cliffs of Moehr and the owner is so friendly and helpful.
Neither of us had ever stayed at a hostel before, but the reviews of Aille River convinced us that this would be a good place to start.
The big, well-stocked, clean kitchen was often in use as was the commons area in which Robert lit a fire every evening. A free washer (with soap powder) and pay dryer were available to use in the afternoon/evening.
Robert was very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, recommending a walk down the road from the hostel toward the shore (and past the "Danger! Beware of the Bull" sign) where we saw an unbelievably beautiful sunset. He also gave us a ride to the pier and let us leave our car at the hostel while we went to Inis Mor.
The location was very central: across from one pub and easily walkable to several other pubs in either direction.
